ARTICULATION DISORDERS
SPEECH SOUND PRODUCTION ERORS
Articulation Delay / Disorder
Articulation describes the way sounds are produced for speech. Articulation errors often reflect a substitution of one sound for another (saying thand instead of sand), omission of a sound (saying and instead of sand), or distorting a sound (saying sand with a "slurpy" sounding "S"). Although children often outgrow these types of errors, they can persist into late childhood and adulthood.
A well-designed therapy plan, often including oral-motor retraining, can remediate these misarticulated sounds in both children and adults.
